Two Different Lenses on the Same Space
An interior designer is focused on how a room functions and feels — furniture layout, colour palette, storage, natural light. A Vastu consultation is focused on something else entirely: directional placement — where the kitchen sits relative to the entrance, which direction the main door faces, where the cash or valuables are kept. Vastu Shastra as a tradition predates modern interior design by a long way, and the two weren't originally meant to compete.
Why the Order You Consult Them Matters
The friction usually shows up when a design plan is finalised first and Vastu is brought in afterward, at which point every correction becomes a compromise on the original design. Bringing both perspectives in together — especially for new construction — avoids that entirely, since layout decisions can satisfy both from the start.
